Last month Blackberry officials made announcement concerning the upcoming layoff. They didn’t exactly mention any dates, but did state that a lot of employees would be taking the hit. Well, as it turns out, the company, exactly one month post the announcement, laid off more than 300 employees through what seemed like a copy pasted email/ letter.
All Blackberry employers had to say was this, “We are in the period of transition and (hence for that matter) we must focus on enhancing our financial results to be in a better position to compete in this current mobile environment.”
In addition to the above statement, Blackberry spokesperson also said, “We recognize our local employees’ hard work on behalf of our company and the difficulty of this news.”
Things have been looking bleak for a long time now. Blackberry, ever since, got involved in offshore server access scandals and a refusal from Pentagon pertaining future contracts agreement, the road has been going downhill. Maybe it is a conspiracy; maybe it is not. However, the company is intent on reducing the expenditures by a whopping 50%!
What better way to cut down on expenditures than to fire a handful of hard working employees, who, not to mention, have mouths to feed back home, but are also already going through a government shutdown crises. All of this happening ahead of the Holiday season is making an average U.S. Citizen’s life a living hell.
The ugly week at Blackberry is followed by the appended official statement:
As previously mentioned, we are in a period of transition and we must focus on enhancing our financial results to be in a better position to compete in this current mobile environment. As such, BlackBerry has implemented an ongoing workforce reduction that will impact approximately 4,500 employees globally over the next three quarters. This week’s reduction includes approximately 300 employees in Waterloo.
We recognize our local employees’ hard work on behalf of our company and the difficulty of this news. And we will do everything in our power to treat our employees with compassion, while offering support during this time of transition.
